Services

K9 Education Center offers a wide variety of services tailored to individual client needs.   All sizes, all ages, and all breeds of dogs (regardless of pedigree) are welcome.   Group classes are limited in size to ensure individual attention. Family members, including well-behaved children, are encouraged to attend class & participate with the dog. Instructors are available by phone and e-mail to answer students' questions & help with problems.   

Please note, aggressive dogs will be evaluated on an individual basis.  Overly aggressive dogs will not be put in a group environment.

  • Dog Behavioral Issues
    • The majority of dog behavioral issues can be managed through establishing a strong foundation in general obedience.  However, in circumstances where a dogs behavior appears to be unique our team assists in managing behavior issues and/or will refer to specific behavior specialists in our network.

 

 


Group Classes:

Group Classes are offered on multiple levels of Obedience training.  They are available for all sizes, shapes, breeds, and mixed breeds of dogs.  The group class setting allows for the opportunity for dogs and handlers to learn to manage themselves around others and around other dogs.

Puppy Kindergarden:

Okay, besides Puppy class being incredibly fun!!... ... ...the class is

 

·         For puppies at least 8 weeks of age (with vaccinations) or puppies under 5 months of age &/or toy breeds under 6 months of age.

·         The course is 1 hour a week for 6 weeks

·         Puppy Kindergarten course includes:

 

o        socialization (puppies learn to interact with other puppies in a safe environment)

o        early stage obedience – attention

o        nutrition & hygiene

o        leash/lead introduction

o        sit/down commands

o        imprinting recall/come command

o        Puppy size agility equipment – for confidence building & loads of puppy fun

o        Class information and handouts: Bite Inhibition, SuperDog: From The Beginning, The Chew Proof Puppy House….Is It Possible?, Dashing Out Doors, Crate Training, Toys and Games, Things To Think About Before Breeding Your Dog, K9 Education Center Policy and Procedures

 

We encourage families to attend all of the classes with your dog. Please note,  very young children and/or children with very short attention spans may find the discussion and demonstration format of the Orientation difficult.

Novice Obedience:

·         This course is for dogs 5 to 6 months of age depending on size and offers basic obedience foundations.  It is a must for those who wish to have a well mannered dog in their home who will exihibit self control and be truly great companions.

·         The course is 1 hour a week for 6 weeks (first day of class may take up to 2 hours)

·         The Novice course includes: 

 

-          Teaching your dog self-control

-          The recall/come command (for your dogs safety above all else)

-          Learn what is your dogs strongest “drive” and train appropriately

-          Basic obedience – sit, down, come, attention, turn right, turn left, lead/leash work

-          Class information and handouts: Operant behavior, Reinforcement – positive and negative, 10 Rules to Becoming a Good Trainer/Handler, Understanding Dog’s Senses – Training & Drive, Setting Goals & Motivation

Intermediate Obedience:
  Canine Good Citizen Preparation & AKC Testing Certified
  • AKC Canine Good Citizen certification and test is open to mixed breed as well as purebred dogs, those passing the test will receive an official certificate from the AKC. 
  • Novice course is a prerequisite to this course as basic foundation obedience must be completed
  • The course is 1 hour a week for a duration of 8 weeks
  • The course training includes:

-          Accepting a friendly stranger who approaches to talk

-          Sitting politely for petting by a stranger

-          Accepting a brief exam and grooming by another

-          Walking on a loose leash

-          Walking nicely through a crowd

-          Sit, down and stay with owner twenty feet away

-          Coming when called on a long line with the owner ten feet away

-          Sit for greeting with handler when approached by another handler and dog

-          Reacting appropriately to visual and audio distractions within a crowd

-          3 minute wait with a tester while the owner is out of sight

Advanced Obedience:
  
  • The Advanced Obedience Course is for those individuals who have a desire to train their dogs to a level where they can formally compete in obedience trials – on varying levels.

Private Classes:
  Private Training Session
  • Private Training Sessions are available on site (K9 Ed Center) or off site (In Home Service)
  • Private Training Sessions are available for:

-          those who are unable to attend group classes

-          those who would prefer to train on a one to one basis

-          those who have specific training requests or behavioral issues

Specialty/Search Dog Training:
  • Specialty/Search Dog Training is a highly specialized form of training and requires considerable time and training of the owner/handler.  As this form of training is highly specialized, it is not for everyone.  Please contact our office for further information regarding this type of specialty training.
